AddressBase® has been born out of the requirement of public sector organisations to have one definitive source of accurate spatial address data. In order to drive the initiative forward the Ordnance Survey and the Local Government Group entered into a joint partnership called GeoPlace LLP from where the AddressBase® products are being managed.

AddressBase® offers a single, free at the point of use source of data to members of the Public Sector Mapping Agreement (PSMA) that will help to drive and facilitate the sharing of accurate information leading to real efficiency savings in this current age of austerity.

For Private Sector organisations, AddressBase® offers a definitive supply of spatial address data with greater emphasis on non-postal locations, not yet built properties and property changes than ever before. This information is crucial to those looking to deliver products and services to the diverse set of locations within the UK.

Experian QAS envisage there to be huge potential benefits to Local & Central Government as well as Utilities, Insurance and other organisations in the use of one data set, encompassing the strongest elements of the National Land & Property Gazetteer (NLPG), Ordnance Survey (OS), AddressLayer 2 and the Postal Address File (PAF).

With clear support of the Governments' transparency agenda this data set will:

  • offer the ability to drive cost savings within and between organisations.
  • offer increased accuracy levels enabling government agencies to get it right first time.

Managing Director of Experian QAS, Joel Curry states:

"There is no doubt in my mind that this will help to reduce government costs and greatly improve access to data."

Surrey County Council

Surrey County Council work with Experian QAS to exploit the Gazetteer.

"Surrey County Council decided to use the NLPG as the standard across the council, but Experian QAS helps us to make sense of it. It enables easy interrogation and look-up of the data on the NLPG, and we also have the reassurance of knowing that the Experian QAS software can work with other data sources. In addition, the Professional Services at Experian QAS are always available to support us and were great to work with when deploying the software."

Ian Coleman, Principle Consultant Enterprise Architect, Surrey County Council.
