Customer Service
By adding lifestyle data with their own gazetteer,
Chorley Council had a detailed knowledge base
to build and deliver an activity programme, tailored to meet
the specific needs of individuals and communities.
When mapped, using the Council's GIS, individual profiles
could be developed highlighting communities that fell into the
20% most deprived, nationally.
Making the most of council held information to transform
service delivery is central to
South Tyneside Council. This is clearly
demonstrated through the evolution of its website. It is quick
and easy to use; a person visiting the site simply types in
their postcode and then chooses their property from the
resulting list, all sourced from the LLPG. Key benefits
include: savings and efficiencies achieved through NI 14
'Avoidable Contact' - encouraging citizens to take the low
cost route online; improved service delivery at lower cost
achieved within existing budgets and information is integrated
with an online self service facility.
Adult and Children Services
Since 2006, the
London Borough of Barking and Dagenham has
actively sought information about both internal and external
population migration. Monitoring forms sent out with all
electoral registration requests, collected demographic
information not covered by the electoral register. This data,
when linked to the NLPG, enabled the council to map, at
household level, the movement of population within the Borough
giving additional intelligence for the strategic planning of
service delivery, effective targeting of resources and joined
up working between service teams. This additional detail
provides indications of potential service or resource demand
issues for example within health, child and social care.
Leisure and Libraries
With more than 750,000 people living within Leeds and the
surrounding areas, the need for affordable and accessible
leisure and sports facilities is crucial. Leeds City Council
offer a "LeedsCard" for its citizens allowing them to benefit
from discounts for museums and concert halls, shops, theatres,
gyms and restaurants. With accurate data in the Card
Management System, ID Works, the council are able to validate
addresses on application. It ensures that budget and resource
isn't wasted; with correct contact details Leeds can be sure
the card is sent to the right address and that their customers
have a positive experience when contacting Leeds City Council.
Education
Experian QAS are working with one local council to update and
reorganise the collection and management of its data to
support a single customer view.
Previously, every department across the council had varying
systems to capture, manage and use their data. The council was
keen to make sure each department used their NLPG data in a
similar way to make it easier to share information by using
the Unique Property Reference Number (UPRN). This also reduced
costs associated with duplicate and inaccurate contacts. With
accurate address and location information the council is now
able to allocate children to schools according to the area
they lived in as well as improving service delivery and
reducing customer complaints.
Finance
Often in finance departments it is corporate policy to utilise
gazetteer data. With inaccurate contact information supplier
invoices and bills can be sent to the wrong address resulting
in collections not received and bills not paid.
HR
Accurate address and location information is crucial to HR
teams for recruitment, administration and to provide self
service systems for employees to maintain their details.
