A main challenge in my role as data steward, is to overcome the bad press data governance can sometimes have. Linking my work with individuals' jobs and targets has really helped. Having worked in the industry for 8 years, I've seen data strategies evolve considerably. Data governance is now seen as a priority by many as opposed to a burden placed on IT. In my opinion you need to get the strategy right, set clear targets and KPI's and get more from your data quality tools.
