Keep patient data accurate

Charge-back out of area treatment costs

The NHS has long recognised the importance of accurate patient records. QAS Healthcoder collects and ensures accurate patient data, helping therefore with the below:

  • A typical hospital spends 15% of its budget on collecting data.
  • 56% of all trusts failed to reach an 'acceptable' score of data accuracy.
  • The rise of Electronic Patient Records demands accuracy.
  • Information is crucial for accurate assignment of costs to a patient's Primary Care Trust (PCT).

The challenge

Within hospital trusts, data is used to assign patient treatment costs to correct PCTs (Primary Care Trust). After patient treatment, a hospital may need to charge back treatment costs to the appropriate PCT. If the data used is incorrect, this can be a time consuming and manual process.

How can Experian QAS help?

With Experian QAS Healthcoder, you can collect accurate address and PCT information from the outset. Meaning:

  • data to be accurate from the start
  • you instantly know the PCT a patient is registered to
  • treatment charge-backs to the owning PCT are easily managed

This will enable better use of valuable budget and support other initiatives.

QAS Healthcoder has a range of features:

  • Single line entry - QAS Healthcoder simply requires one or more component parts of the address, separated by a comma, to bring back a full address.

  • Health Sector data - any address returned can include the Primary Care Trust (PCT) code and the NHS Authority related to that postcode.

  • ZZ postcodes - returns the country name and postcode. There are two types of search you can perform; single match or 'wild card'.

  • Fuzzy matching - entries containing a variety of ambiguous spellings, abbreviations and different formats will return a pick-list containing the correct address.

  • Recode postcodes - if you search on a postcode that has been changed by the Royal Mail (since 1990) QAS Healthcoder will find the address and return the new postcode.

  • Address coverage - QAS Healthcoder provides access to detailed data from the Postal Address File.

  • Formatting and configuration options - different address layouts can be defined and automatically reformatted to match the underlying application. Users can paste into their own database, a clipboard or a file.

  • Easy integration - QAS Healthcoder is available as a seamless function within most hospital Patient Administration Systems (PAS).
