The National Canvasse: Experian's extended version of the Electoral Register
The names data incorporated into QAS products is the National Canvasse database from Experian.
What is National Canvasse?
National Canvasse is Experian's consumer names database, extending the
Electoral Register to provide a more up-to-date dataset than the Electoral
Register alone.
Data Collection Process
Experian's aim has been to create the most comprehensive consumer name data
source, offering UK wide coverage whilst maintaining the very highest levels of
data quality and data recency.
Experian's 'National Canvasse' brings together numerous data sources to fill the gap left out by those who opt out of the Electoral Register. Currently 32% of the electorate opt out (October 2004 figures) and the rate may continue to increase annually. However, using Experian's additional data sources, the National Canvasse provides over 90% coverage of these Electoral Register opt-outs equating to an additional 11.6million records (October 2005).
What are the sources of the data?
Given the opt out rate from the Electoral Register, other compliant data sources are required to fill the
gap. 'National Canvasse' sources data from:
- Edited Electoral Register
- Experian's Canvasse Lifestyle data
- Directors data
- Shareholder data
- Contributor data sources
Who are the contributors?
Companies with large commercial databases built from customer transactions.
These databases provide data for individuals who have not opted out of 3rd
party marketing activity. For data that does not have confirmation of presence
within the last 12 months, Experian verify against their unique central data
warehouse.
