Royal Mail PAF licence changes

Royal Mail PAF licence changes

The Royal Mail is in the process of changing its Postcode Address File (PAF) licence. The Royal Mail's intentions are to:

  • Provide a simpler, easier to understand licence
  • Reflect the commercial needs of PAF users
  • Ensure charges are more reflective of usage
  • Encourage and widen the use of PAF

New terms and conditions for the supply and use of PAF are expected to take effect from April 1st 2010.

We'll explain the new licence to you and ensure you are using PAF data in the most efficient and cost-effective way to minimise any impact.

Your next steps

The changes will affect all customers with a renewal date of 1st March 2010 onwards. Your Customer Account Manager will be contacting you prior to your first renewal after this date to explain the Royal Mail PAF licence changes in more detail and ensure you are compliant with the new licence terms. In order to ensure you are getting the most cost-effective use of the PAF data for your usage, please help us by establishing the following information prior to your next renewal.

  • Number of users with the ability to access PAF data within your application(s)
  • The number and names of the servers this data is stored on
  • Approximate number of address look-ups you perform per annum
  • Details of any other legal entities that have access to your systems

Please submit this information via our Licence Review Form to help your Customer Account Manager establish the best option for your organisation prior to contacting you.
