Surrey Police embrace new technology
Accurate information is the lifeblood of policing. With the help of accurate and reliable data, Surrey Police improve the way it responds to incidents.
Since 1997, Surrey Police has been working with Experian QAS to provide control room staff with name and address data, which gives them a snapshot of people living in the vicinity of an incident. This means that officers can go to a location armed with useful information, such as previous offenders living in the area.
The existing software was performing well, but Surrey Police had some other challenges that needed to be solved. During stop and search operations, they found that members of the public would often provide inaccurate or false contact information. In addition, when investigating an incident, they found that there often was a requirement for additional information over and above name and address data, such as length of residency and date of birth.
NameTracer Pro provides access to additional names data, including those that don't appear on the full Electoral Roll. In addition to this, date of birth, old names and address records and length of residency are confirmed. The integration resulted in the dramatic improvement of operations such as Door to Door and Surveillance. Experian QAS data has also helped to analyse crime and disorder in more depth.
