Fight fraud in-store

Experian QAS introduces address validation to retail EPOS systems in order to check customer details in store.

Validating customer addresses in store has not traditionally been a high priority for many retailers. But there are good reasons why in-store address validation, using a solution like QAS Pro, which integrates easily into the existing EPOS system, makes sense. For a major retailer, the costs associated with fraudulent returns can be significant. Many retailers have experienced problems in this area. Goods that have either been stolen, or which have been bought at a discounted price, are returned by customers in order to obtain a refund of the original selling price. Validating address details in store can often deter customers from fraudulent returns.

In-store address validation also helps to reduce credit card fraud, which made a major contribution to the £2 billion worth of fraud that UK retailers suffered in 2007, according to statistics from the British Retail Consortium. Address validation also helps ensure that home deliveries are sent to the correct address, reducing the costs associated with re-delivery, and avoiding any loss of reputation or brand equity with the customer. Needless to say, having the correct address for each customer also ensures that you can market to them more effectively and efficiently.
