MDM sales leap 24%

Economic downturn forces companies to take data quality more seriously.

According to the analyst firm Gartner, sales of database management software jumped by over 24% in the past year, as organisations around the world looked to database management software as a way of saving money and making more efficient and profitable use of the data they hold.

According to Gartner, businesses were expected to spend $1.3bn (£890m) on master data management (MDM) systems in 2008, an increase of $300m over 2007.
"Managing data correctly has always been seen as a sensible business practice, but the current economic situation puts into focus just how effective data management can be at driving up efficiencies and driving down costs," says Experian QAS UK Sales Director, Mark Hollyhead. "At a time when organisations are looking to be as effective as possible across their operations, accurate information is key."

To help organisations explore how well developed their contact data management (CDM) systems, processes and culture are, Experian QAS has recently launched a tailored data governance audit solution called QAS CDM360. The service shows where you stand in terms of industry benchmarks, and offers practical recommendations for improvements through best practice.

QAS CDM360 can help:

  • Identify areas that are exposing your organisation to risk
  • Improve an existing contact data management strategy
  • Maximise current investment in contact data management
  • Strengthen influence at board level
  • Provide an impartial assessment of your current contact data management practises

The service is tailored completely to each individual organisation's needs, so single departments, separate business functions or entire organisations can be audited, and specific parts of the audit can be dropped or added depending on your specific requirements. The audit will allocate your organisation's contact data management to a specific level on the QAS Contact Data Management Maturity Model.

A more mature organisation will derive greater benefits (e.g. revenue generation opportunities) and be less exposed to the risks associated with poor Contact Data Management practises.

The deliverables from the audit include a set of practical recommendations to help you improve your contact data strategy. You also receive a list of findings, both positive and negative, and a rating to indicate your maturity level in relation to your contact data practises.
