Consumer Protection from Unfair Trading Regulations 2008 (CPUT)

The new legislation will require organisations to actively manage their data, especially telephone numbers, to check for people that have registered with the TPS. If organisations make persistent and unwanted solicitations by telephone, this will be classified as a criminal offence, and carries a maximum fine of £5000 and/or a term of imprisonment not exceeding two years.
