Responsible Mail definition

Definition :

Responsible Mail is the Royal Mail Wholesale (RMW) service that provides customers with the opportunity to benefit from lower prices by posting environmentally friendly direct mail. Alongside the increased ROI this brings, the Responsible Mail service means the customer can also demonstrate their environmental credentials to their own customers and contribute to their Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) scores.

By improving the targeting of their mailings by effective use of data management, using this Responsible Mail service can also of course, help benefit the environment. Wasted mail is avoided by ensuring that data is sent to relevant and up to date addresses. For example, mailing to goneaways and the deceased is avoided.

Customer are also rewarded by using recourses that are less harmful to the environment and which are recyclable.

The specification of Responsible Mail has been aligned to British Standards Institute document on environment performance of Direct Marketing, PAS 2020 and give guidance on how to prepare mail to have the least environmental impact.
