National Address Gazetteer Database
Definition :
National Address Gazetteer Database has been recently created to provide one definitive source of accurate spatial address data.
To deliver the National Address Gazetteer Database, there has been a joint venture between Ordnance Survey and the local government group to create a single source of address data.
Eric Pickles MP, Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government, announced that addressing information from local authorities and Ordnance Survey will be brought together to create a 'National Address Gazetteer Database'.
It is predicted that products from the national address gazetteer database will deliver significant efficiency savings and improvements by reducing the need for data matching across different address products.
This single address database will mean a removal of data duplication issues and will improve the efficiency of processes in the public sector. Providing better quality address data information
The products created from the National Address Gazetteer Database will be made available free at the point of use for all public sector bodies under the centrally funded public sector mapping agreement.
Subject to Office of Fair Trading clearance the National Address Gazetteer database will be developed by April 2011. Allowing the market to review the database before it is released.
