Electronic identity authentication definition

Definition :
The overall process of data and identity validation and verifying an individual's identity electronically through either data or questions. The data and responses received are then analysed to highlight any suspicious activity that might indicate identity fraud or money laundering.

Using electronic ID authentication as a convenient method to establish identity is now becoming more widespread. Research conducted by Experian in 2007 revealed that by 2009, two thirds of businesses will use electronic ID checks to prevent fraid.
