Age verification refers mostly to the emerging requirement to verify ages online.

Age verification solutions work to prevent underage sales and potentially, fraud.

Verifying age is becoming a hot issue for emerging markets such as online gaming and online retail. Although, age verification is also prevalent for the more traditional industries such as the financial sector.

A main area where age verification is clearly required is within the online gaming industry. There has been an increase in teenagers under the age of 18 attempting to gamble online often attempting to use credit cards of elders.

The Licensing Authorities in the online gaming industry have ensured that operators are focused on player age verification to prevent children from being able to gamble online

Using databases and solutions, the age of an online user can be verified and age and identity can increasingly be verified with ease.

Age verification legislation

For authorities, testing age verification by online retailers is becoming more necessary.

Margaret Moran MP recently introduced a bill into parliament called Online Purchasing of Goods and Services (Age Verification): "The online gaming industry has already proved that they can enable instant customer age verification during the online transaction without incurring significant additional costs and without harming ht the customer experience."
