Address formatting definition

Definition :
Address formatting is the standardising of the layout of addresses within a database

By carrying out address formatting ensures that all mailing activity is correctly labelled and sorted. Having addresses formatted correctly within databases helps with

  • Customer data analysis and profiling
  • Reducing wasted mailing costs

Previously address formatting has been carried out once the address has been added to the database rather than at time of entry. This can cause delays with marketing activity and also impact on customer service relationships.

One way to reduce any issues at the back end is get the address format correct at the time of data entry, this will be more effective from a cost perspective for reducing wasted mailing costs.
