Use Twitter 'to engage with customers'
May 25 2010, 11:37 AM
The social networking site Twitter can be a great marketing tool for small businesses.
This is according to Mark Batchelor, Managing Director of Markman OTW, who said it can be a helpful mechanism for companies that want to connect with their consumers.
"If you start promoting yourself and having online conversations, you can engage with people you wouldn't normally come across, exchange ideas and you may even find that people start helping you," he explained.
Mr Batchelor noted that the TweetDeck application is useful as it allows you to dip in and out of several different conversations.
However, he warned that businesses using Twitter need to be cautious as it is easy to say the wrong thing.
According to the Third Annual FedEx Office Signs of the Times Small Business Survey from FedEx Office and Ketchum, around 36% of small companies in the US plan to increase their use of Twitter and Facebook.
