Travel card fraud danger
- Sep 4 2008, 10:02 AM
An online travel insurance specialist has been warning travellers to be wary of card fraud both while they are away and after they get back.
Essential Travel cites figures in the Times suggesting that as many as seven in ten (77 per cent) UK travellers fall victim to card fraud.
It recommends that travellers pay close attention to their statements to help spot fraud so that it can be dealt with straight away.
Essential Travel financial director Stephen Smith said that this practice should continue even after returning from abroad.
"The majority of travellers take great care of their valuables when theyre overseas," he said.
"But the problem with credit card fraud is you dont realise youve been a victim until weeks, sometimes even months later."
While cardholders' vigilance may limit the damage caused by fraud, retailers can play their part too by verifying the identity of the person carrying out a transaction.
