Strong data strategy 'is essential for preventing leaks'
Sep 8 2009, 11:31 AM
Data leakage is one of the biggest problems facing companies today and, according to one expert, it is on the rise.
Writing for Computer Weekly, Yuval Ben-Itzhak, Chief Technology Officer at Finjan, said organisations have become increasingly aware of the need to protect their data following a number of high-profile leaks over the last year.
"The optimal answer is a gateway-based web security solution, consisting of dedicated hardware/software platforms," he noted.
When choosing a data loss prevention solution, Mr Ben-Itzhak said companies should ensure that all outbound communication is "analysed in real time and identified by [its] true content payload, not just by [its] file extensions".
"True Content Type detection capabilities prevent selected file types from leaking out or being downloaded by users," he added.
Meanwhile, the Times reported last month that a number of companies are clamping down on the use of social networking sites by employees, amid concerns over data leaks and the violation of email policies.
