Smartphones 'will be next big marketing platform'
Jul 30 2010, 13:37 PM
A mobile phone expert has predicted that smartphones will be the next major marketing platform.
According to Natasha Stokes, editor of Mobile Choice, Google could be one of the main companies to push towards this happening in the coming months and years.
The search engine giant - which produced the Nexus One smartphone that was released earlier this year - will use the Android market to push mobile marketing, Ms Stokes predicted.
"Google has always made its profit from advertising on the web - so as web use increasingly moves to mobile, it makes perfect sense to look to smartphones as the next big advertising platform," she said.
Ms Stokes said as surfing the internet becomes more common for mobile phone users, it is likely that further companies will concentrate on smartphones as a marketing platform.
She was speaking after Neil Strother, practice director for mobile marketing strategies at ABI Research, said smartphones are attractive devices for mobile marketers to concentrate on, because they are powerful and have a multitude of uses.
