RMIF boss urges businesses to up their game
- Aug 19 2008, 17:24 PM
The Retail Motor Industry Federation (RMIF) has called for businesses to protect their customers from credit card fraud.
With credit card losses in the UK reaching well over £530 million, and increasing by 25 per cent on last years figures, RMIF has asked that businesses step up to the plate and do more.
Despite the advent of chip and pin technology, the problem of fraud continues to increase.
Cloned card fraud, where stolen details are used with fake cards, increased by 43 per cent last year to £144.3 million.
RMIF director of independent membership Ray Holloway said any businesses that have not already done so should upgrade to chip and Pin as soon as possible.
He added: "There are also training courses available that help retail staff identify counterfeit and stolen credit cards."
Retailers should always make sure they have the correct identity authentication technology and practices in place to help protect against fraud.
