People 'do not take social media security seriously'
Jul 14 2010, 16:04 PM
Many internet users do not consider their security when using social networking sites such as Facebook and Twitter, it has been claimed.
David Bennett, Director of Consumer Business Development at Webroot software for Europe, the Middle East and Africa, suggested that many people share too much information.
"What people need to realise, is that ordinarily when people meet, they probably wouldn't share where we live, our telephone number, our birthday, what we are interested in, until we had perhaps met a couple of times," he commented.
Individuals should not post anything unless they are happy with those details being made public, Mr Bennett added.
A recent survey carried out by Webroot revealed that 11 per cent of social networking users have deleted an account in the past due to concerns about their personal privacy.
Over half of those polled said they worry over loss of privacy incurred from using geolocation.
