Outsourcing 'may remove data cleansing headaches'
Sep 3 2010, 10:24 AM
Data cleansing is just one area in which IT headaches can be removed by outsourcing responsibility for it to a third-party vendor.
Writing for eBizQ, industry commentator Nari Kannan explained that a growing number of organisations are employing cloud vendors to deal with various business intelligence issues.
He suggested that this is partly down to companies becoming frustrated with the limitations of their own IT departments in this field.
Mr Kannan said IT teams are often weighed down with a lot of different projects, meaning they can be aided by outsourcing.
"IT has a big headache just collecting, cleansing and storing data, let alone creating reports out of them, useful ones," he stated.
Last month, SmartData Collective blogger Jim Harris explained that data cleansing work should have an important role to play in data quality initiatives.
He stated that the process can help to deal with the problems caused by duplicate records.
