Online data strategy to rate hospitals launched
Aug 12 2009, 12:43 PM
The Department of Health has launched a new data strategy, which encourages patients to rate the quality of the service they have received in hospital.
A scorecard system is used, which will also benefit the single citizen view by providing information to help them decide where they wish to be treated.
Patients can rate a hospital for its cleanliness, whether they would recommend it to loved ones, performance of staff and quality of food.
Health Secretary Andy Burnham commented: "Going into hospital is one of the most important moments in anyone's life. And yet we don't equip patients with anything like enough information to make informed decisions.
"The new scorecard helps patients make the right choice of hospital for them by bringing together all the information in one place for the first time."
He added that the tool also provides the NHS with the opportunity to address any issues raised by patients, which they may otherwise have been oblivious to.
In other news, the NHS launched an online data strategy earlier this week (August 10th), which offers free advice, guidance and reassurance to parents and carers of babies.
