New build postcode registrations 'highest in 18 months'
Aug 17 2010, 10:57 AM
Postcode software may become more highly sought after as Royal Mail have revealed that the number of new build planning developments in the UK has reached its highest level since October 2008.
Its Building Barometer uses its database of postcodes to show which planned new buildings have been allocated one and gives a picture of where construction work is taking place across the UK.
East Anglia is one region where significant increases have been recorded, with more than 2,000 new building developments registered in June 2010 compared to just over 1,000 in June 2009.
Steve Rooney, acting head of the address management unit at Royal Mail, said: "The latest figures certainly indicate a positive trend in the construction industry at the start of the current financial year."
Earlier this month, users of postcode software systems learned that Royal Mail is planning to remove county names from its Postcode Address File database by 2016, reported the Daily Telegraph.
