Mobile marketing 'could take over from internet marketing'
Jul 23 2010, 11:48 AM
Mobile marketing could become bigger than internet marketing in the future, it has been suggested.
Gordon Borrell, Chief Executive of Borrell Associates, said "all the signs are there" that this may happen.
"We shouldn't overlook the fact that mobile devices go with people, and tend to be very close to someone's wallet," he commented.
Mr Borrell pointed out that a newspaper or a TV commercial are not in your hand while you are shopping, unlike a mobile phone.
If it buzzes and you receive a text voucher while you are out, you are more likely to choose that brand, he explained.
"There are tremendous opportunities here, so it's not hard to imagine that the marriage of advertising with mobile devices might actually outstrip all other media," Mr Borrell added.
Figures published by Borrell Associates earlier this year revealed that revenues in the mobile marketing sector reached $2.7 billion (£1.8 billion) last year.
