Innovative credit card designed to combat online identity fraud
- Jan 5 2009, 10:37 AM
A new type of credit card has been launched in an attempt to combat identity fraud.
The Visa card, which is being trialled during the early part of this year, has unique features that are specifically designed to combat identity fraud.
The card looks exactly like a normal credit card and is powered by a battery that will last three years.
It has an LCD display and 12-button keypad that can be used by the card-holder to input a Pin number every time an online purchase is made.
A Visa official commented: "We saw a big rise in online shopping but consumers were still worried about fraud. We hope this new card will help allay those fears, and give consumers more confidence when shopping online."
According to a survey by Fellowes for National Identity Fraud Prevention Week, 22% of people access their online bank account at internet cafes or at work.
