ID authentication provided by London Olympics tickets
Jun 2 2009, 12:55 PM
Tickets issued for events at the London 2012 Olympics could also act as contactless payment cards for travel and ID authentication, it has been suggested.
According to silicon.com, research into the feasibility of such a ticketing system is being conducted by the UK's Parliamentary Office of Science and Technology (Post).
The website reported that Post is to issue its recommendations on the subject in the House of Commons Library next month.
Andrew Miller, chairman of the Parliamentary Information Technology Committee, told silicon.com: "I think that we have the opportunity to do something special. I hope that what this Post report does is ot enthuse people to think in those terms."
Meanwhile, Alex Smith, research analyst at Canalys, praised the idea but suggested to the website that establishing the correct IT infrastructure will be crucial to its success.
Last month, companies including Microsoft and Nokia signed up to a joint-scheme designed to improve enterprise best practice in tackling identity fraud.
