Guidance 'will reduce risk of data management breaches'
May 11 2011, 17:12 PM
Organisations should be able to minimise the risk of data management failings when sharing information by following certain rules, it has been suggested.
The Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) has launched its data sharing code of practice, which offers tips on when it is appropriate to share personal information and the ways that it should be done.
"I'd encourage all businesses and public bodies that share personal data to get to grips with the code without delay so they can be sure they are getting it right," said information commissioner Christopher Graham.
He added the guidance, which aims to lower the potential of personal data falling in to the wrong hands, is a best practice approach that can be taken on board by a number of businesses.
Earlier this week Con Mallon, Norton regional product marketing director, suggested corporations should protect themselves from the risk of hackers breaching security by having adequate measures in place.
