Green data management 'more affordable than ever'
Mar 19 2010, 12:06 PM
Advances in technology are making data management cheaper than ever before, according to one expert.
ConnectM Technology Solutions Chief Executive Murali Ramalingam told the Hindu newspaper development of new equipment was improving all the time and that prices were falling to help offset increasing energy costs.
Mr Ramalingam said: "Technology is increasingly addressing the energy management domain and is slated to drive continuous improvement in the same."
He also pointed to projects like the Google power meter which he said would further increase energy awareness, thereby reducing wastage, and suggested that new technology could increase "cost competitiveness" of data management centres.
It was announced last month by power efficiency firm Green Grid that it would be launching two new online tools to help data centre managers keep a closer eye on energy use.
The company's technology is aimed at enabling companies to identify cooling inefficiency and work out where and how much energy is being wasted.
