GMC upgrades teaching data strategy to improve best practice
- Feb 9 2009, 10:45 AM
The General Medical Council (GMC) announced last week (February 2nd) that it has upgraded its teaching website to improve best practice among doctors.
Introducing doctors and student doctors to scenarios enabling them to understand the patient's single citizen view, the Good Medical Practice in Action digital resource now includes up-to-date ethical dilemmas a doctor may face.
The data strategy involves patient consultations with users choosing options on the best course of action in compliance with the GMC's Good Medical Practice ethical guidelines.
At the end there is discussion of the case by practicing doctors during a 'case notes' section.
Dr John Jenkins, chair of the GMC's Standards and Ethics Committee, commented: "Following the huge success of Good Medical Practice in Action earlier this year, this is a welcome opportunity to expand on and improve the content of the web zone. There are more challenging situations to help doctors and patients engage with our ethical guidance."
He added that the site not only helped doctors and student doctors to ensure best practice in patient healthcare but could also be utilised by others working in the health profession.
In November 2008 the GMC launched a new information website for patients to ensure best practice in the medical sector.
