Enforcing data governance policies 'can be difficult'
Jun 11 2010, 11:47 AM
Businesses have been offered advice on how to effectively implement their data governance policies.
Writing for his OCDQ Blog, industry commentator Jim Harris acknowledged that this can be difficult to accomplish.
"However, without enforcement, data governance policies are powerless to affect the real changes necessary," he commented.
Mr Harris advised managers to use clear, natural language when communicating with employees and to encourage open discussion and debate.
He noted that data governance policies should be continually refined and must "dynamically evolve and adapt".
Mr Harris added that this is important if businesses are to thrive in today's competitive marketplace.
Writing for itbusinessedge.com last year, Ann All said companies can benefit from involving more people in the data governance process.
She said businesses should not simply "shrug it off" when errors or discrepancies are flagged up.
