Email marketing grows up

Data Quality

New research has suggested that email marketing is showing signs of maturity as a marketing tool.

A study from Forrester Research has claimed that the medium is coming of age and now has almost universal penetration. The survey found that 97 per cent of consumers use email marketing, meaning targeting the audience you want to reach in such a campaign is increasingly important.

Data quality is important in email marketing campaigns to ensure that people are not being deluged with emails that do not relate to them. Dirty data can cause problems in email marketing campaigns by costing companies considerable time and money, as well as becoming a source of annoyance to those who are receiving the unwanted emails.

As such, data cleansing has an important role to play in this increasingly important market and data quality needs to be maintained at a high standard so as to ensure companies are reaching the right audience.

Explaining the current position in the marketplace of email marketing, Forrester analyst Shar VanBoskirk said: "Despite concerns about declining attitudes toward email marketing, the medium is alive and well."
