Jan 3 2012, 14:50 PM
New online services are to be offered by the Irish government after a seven-year hiatus, with online voter registration,a national release of fixyourstreet and a central portal of more than 300 public services being rolled out, according to Silicon Republic.
Effective data management will be central to the government's objectives, as local governments and companies in the UK recover from a year of data security leaks and data integrity mismanagement.
Brendon Howling, the minister for public expenditure and reform, has cited expenditure cuts as being the primary motive for the move to online.
Public accountability is also a chief motive with the state embarking on a wider GovStat initiative in 2013. The plans for increased data visibility follow the open data strategies being implemented across Europe.
Some 40 billion worth of unlocked value is being stored inside government and local government vaults, waiting for the most efficient form of release.
Data management and data quality software will be crucial to the release of the data emporium, which will allow citizens to feel more involved and more aware through critical data.
