Direct marketing 'can aid music industry'
Sep 1 2010, 10:19 AM
Address management tools may be in demand among companies in the music industry as they seek to expand their direct marketing efforts.
According to Marketing Week writer Russell Parsons, an ongoing decline in physical music sales is leading record companies to search for new channels in a bid to secure their future.
He said the team behind DJ Fatboy Slim are among those who have embraced the direct marketing approach, offering a free summer mix via his website in exchange for email address details from his fans.
Mr Parsons said this exchange could mark the way forward for the industry.
"Direct marketing such as this helps the music industry create relationships with consumers that expect music to be free," he stated.
Address management offerings may also be on the radar of non-profit organisations as Mr Parsons recently suggested that a good way for charities to raise cash is through relatively inexpensive targeted marketing campaigns.
