Data strategy to improve public sector healthcare announced
Jul 15 2009, 10:33 AM
A data strategy to improve best practice in the delivery of public sector healthcare from a single citizen view has been announced by the Office for Life Sciences (OLS).
Working with the NHS, academics and the life sciences industry, the data strategy is designed to improve innovation and increase access to the latest cutting edge medical technology.
The data strategy will see investment in research, clinical trials, improved dissemination of information to patients and the promotion of the UK as a centre for life science best practice.
Andrew Dillon, Chief Executive of National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence (Nice), commented: "Securing a successful future for the life sciences industries is important for patients and the UK economy. Nice is committed to engaging constructively with companies and we are extending the access that companies have to us as we appraise their products.
"The Innovation Pass is an opportunity for data to be gathered on potentially important new treatments."
Nice provides guidance on best practice in public health, and emerging health technologies and procedures.
