Data security 'has become a top priority for businesses'
Nov 25 2009, 11:06 AM
An increase in the number of high-profile data losses hitting the headlines has prompted businesses to place more emphasis on the importance of data security.
This is the opinion of David Emms, Senior Security Researcher of the Global Research and Analysis Team at Kaspersky, who said the issue is becoming very well publicised.
"The most immediate consequence of a loss of data would be embarrassment and loss of reputation for the organisation itself," he commented.
Mr Emms noted that losing sensitive information can have a huge impact on a business and claimed that many companies have woken up to the fact that their data is a valuable asset.
No one wants to fall foul of the Information Commissioner's Office, he added.
In related news, it was reported earlier this month that a laptop containing the names, addresses, dates of birth and signatures of 14,000 voters was stolen from a council office.
