Data quality 'valuable and important to businesses'
Aug 27 2010, 10:21 AM
The importance of high data quality has been acknowledged by the majority of businesses questioned in a new survey.
A Capscan report into International Data Quality Management found that 88.6 per cent of organisations agree with the assertion that data quality is of real importance and value to their business.
But despite these beliefs, only 38.8 per cent of those questioned currently have a data quality management strategy in place at their organisation, reports Information World Review.
Graham Rhind, the data management expert and independent analyst who wrote the report, said the distance between beliefs and actions at many organisations is "disappointingly wide."
"The integration of data quality practices into the daily life of those companies is not common and there is a great deal of room for improvement at a strategic level," he added.
Earlier this week, Eli Noam, Professor of Finance and Economics at Columbia University told the Financial Times that data quality processes need to be improved in the reporting of international economic performance in various industries.
