Data quality 'should be responsibility of all employees'
Jul 15 2010, 16:04 PM
Data quality should be the responsibility of everyone within an organisation, it has been claimed.
Speaking to SearchDataManagement.com, Danette McGilvray, President of Granite Falls Consulting, suggested that people on the business side of a company often believe that ensuring data quality is up to the data management professionals working in IT.
However, she noted that often one of the root causes of data problems is that people in customer service positions have not been trained properly and do not realise the implications of capturing inaccurate data.
"Any business function, process, decision and report … has an aspect of information to it and [IT workers] want to be able to trust that information to complete whatever [they] do," Ms McGilvray commented.
Writing recently for Marketing Week, G2 Data Dynamics Managing Director Kevin Slatter, said the success of marketing campaigns relies on data quality.
He added that customer relationship management programmes can be inefficient unless information is clean, deduped and suppressed.
