Data quality 'improved by information governance procedures'
Aug 25 2010, 10:34 AM
Organisations looking to implement data quality programmes have been advised that information governance procedures can be helpful.
According to research conducted by independent analyst The Information Difference, 79 per cent of companies with an active data governance programme said that it was "imperative" to implement it ahead of, or running alongside, master data management and data quality initiatives.
Of those planning to undertake data governance work, 88 per cent agreed with this line of argument.
Senior vice president and co-founder of The Information Difference Dr David Waddington said: "Master data management and data quality have a greater chance of success when a data governance programme is in place."
Earlier this month, a spokesman for HM Revenue and Customs said the organisation's new computer system will lead to data quality improvements over time.
It aims to improve accuracy levels and reduce the number of under and overpayments being received by the tax body, reported the Daily Telegraph.
