Data levels will 'continue to grow'
Jul 19 2012, 13:24 PM
Data levels will continue to grow in the market, one expert has predicted.
Andy Kirk, Founder of Visualising Data, commented that the volumes will keep increasing as long as the cost to carry out data capture, storage and handling remains affordable and justifiable to businesses.
"There is so much untapped potential in terms of events and data activities that aren't currently captured. The key, however, will be whether organisations are sufficiently geared up to take advantage of these rich raw materials," he said.
Mr Kirk highlighted that, while capturing and holding details is "all good and well", the key for businesses is to convert data into information that is understandable.
Matt Torrens, Director at SproutIT.co.uk, recently claimed that data security needs to cover more areas than just encryption.
Mr Torrens explained that companies need to ensure that they safeguard private and confidential information and follow a sensible method when doing so.
He also cited passwords, Windows updates and antivirus protection as areas of importance.
