Data integrity solutions 'have an important role to play'
Aug 19 2010, 10:31 AM
Data integrity solutions can help organisations with the vital task of ensuring important information used in their operations is accurate.
Government Technology writer Terry Wieczorek explained that advanced digital technology has made the creation, usage and storage of documents quicker and easier than ever before.
But important security questions are raised by the ability to easily transmit this data across multiple communication channels, especially for public sector organisations handling sensitive information, Mr Wieczorek said.
One consequence of this is that data integrity "is necessary in every situation".
"Information in a document should be stored in its true fidelity and it should be tamper-proof or at least leave some indication that it has been changed, corrected or updated," the commentator added.
Earlier this week, a spokesperson for the Department for Energy and Climate Change told the Telegraph that improving data integrity is one of the goals behind a scheme requiring businesses to register their electricity meter details with the government.
