Data integrity 'can be improved by outsourcing'
Aug 19 2010, 10:30 AM
There is no need for companies to fear data integrity solutions based in the cloud, an expert has said.
Speaking to Silicon Republic, Dr Giles Hogben, Programme Manager for Secure Services at the European Network and Information Security Agency, stated that concerns about data integrity are holding back some small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) from cloud computing adoption.
But he said this is not a logical position for companies to take.
"You have to ask yourself … whether data integrity would be better protected in the current SME set-up or moving into a cloud provider who can in many cases afford much better integrity protection measures," he stated.
Dr Hogben said data integrity issues will vary from application to application.
Earlier this month, Sunshine Coast Daily columnist Rebecca Marshall said that cloud computing has great potential for businesses, as it can help to lower their running costs and increase their productivity levels.
