Data governance process 'should involve more people'

Businesses can benefit from involving more people in the data governance process, it has been suggested.
Writing for itbusinessedge.com, Ann All compared the principles of data quality to a family health situation.
"In many if not most instances, you (or a family member or friend) will become aware of a health issue before your doctor does. However, early detection won't help you if you aren't motivated enough to see a medical professional about it," she commented.
Ms All added that companies should not simply "shrug it off" when errors or discrepancies are flagged up and claimed that all too often they leave the data clean-up to someone else.
It is more difficult to deal with data problems after they have been disseminated several times and by several users, she continued.
Writing for zdnet.com, Navin Sharma said that ensuring information is satisfactory is "an ongoing process" and part of everyone's responsibility.
