Data centres 'investing in green technology'
Oct 28 2009, 11:55 AM
The green consumer product market is growing relatively slowly, however, the same cannot be said for the business side of things, it has been claimed.
Writing for greenercomputing.com, Matthew Wheeland cited a recent survey carried out by Afcom at its Data World Conference, which revealed that the majority of data centre managers have already invested in green technology.
"This comes despite - or more likely because of - the economic downturn. The biggest benefits report in the survey were a decrease in energy use (aka increased efficiency) and an increase in cooling efficiency," he noted.
Jill Eckhaus, chief executive of AFCOM, told the website that green IT is being taken seriously by companies now, particularly where data management is concerned.
In related news, technology firm Arch Rock recently launched a new wireless monitoring system to help data centres conserve energy by locating hotspots and identifying areas of waste.
