Cyber criminals 'targeting social networking sites'
- Nov 23 2009, 10:59 AM
Internet users are increasingly having their social networking accounts targeted by fraudsters, it has been claimed.
Luis Corrons, Technical Director at Panda Security, said a spoof Facebook log-in page was recently created to trick users into handing over their password details.
"Once cyber-crooks have user names and passwords they have all the details and can take any action from the account including spam comments with malicious links," he explained.
Mr Corrons noted that Facebook account details are being stolen and sold for around $100 (£60).
He added that the more popular social networking sites get, the more likely users are to be targeted as the "bad guys" go where the people and money are.
Meanwhile, it was reported recently that US singer and entertainer Britney Spears had her accounts on Twitter and MySpace hacked, with the criminals leaving a host of comments on both pages.
