Courier fails to find the correct address for passport delivery
- Sep 18 2008, 10:45 AM
The story of a Cheltenham man who had his passport delivered to a newspaper office by mistake has underlined the importance of couriers being able to find the correct address.
David Moreton's passport was accidentally delivered to the Gloucestershire Echo office, placing him at risk of identity theft.
Mr Moreton places the blame firmly at the door of the delivery company after its courier failed to deliver the envelope to the correct address.
"I rang them to arrange a delivery to my office and got through to an automated system and told them the address," Mr Moreton told thisisgloucestershire.co.uk.
"One of the things that's most worrying is that I wouldn't have worried about it for a couple of days, I would only have contacted the delivery people on Monday.
"An unscrupulous person would have had a while to use the passport they could have got credit and affected my credit rating, or any sort of crime.
"The repercussions for me could have been really bad."
The Identity and Passport Service is investigating the event, but it simply serves to underline the emphasis that businesses and public services need to place on having the correct address in their database.
