Consumers offered ID prevention advice
Jul 12 2010, 16:04 PM
Consumers have been offered some advice on how to keep their personal details secure.
Speaking to the Independent, Richard Hurley of UK fraud prevention service Cifas said there are a number of steps people can take to protect themselves against identity theft.
He advised people to use the Royal Mail redirection service if they move house and to contact their utility supplier if any expected bills and correspondence fails to turn up.
Ask a neighbour to collect your post from you are going away on holiday and keep your personal documents locked up, Mr Hurley commented.
"Don't download email attachments or click on a link in an email unless it's from someone you trust and never provide sensitive information in an email," he added.
Speaking recently to Durhamregion.com, Detective Brett McCagherty said it is important that people ensure they are not easy targets for fraudsters and do everything possible to keep their details safe.
