Consumer security concerns 'top priority for IT managers'
Jul 29 2010, 12:42 PM
Addressing the security fears of consumers is a top priority for IT managers, it has been revealed.
Research carried out by VeriSign found that 88% of IT professionals rank this as their biggest concern.
It was revealed that IT managers dedicate an average of 19% of their budgets to dealing with consumer security issues, ComputerWeekly.com reports.
"Problems associated with transacting online, like phishing and identity fraud, receive a lot of media attention, which can make consumers nervous," said VeriSign Director Matthew Bruun.
He added that businesses should demonstrate their security credentials to consumers in a very visible way.
The survey found that around 40% of organisations use third party trust symbols on their websites.
Speaking recently, Information Commissioner Christopher Graham said organisations should be honest with people when collecting data and ensure they tell consumers how their details will be used.
Getting privacy right means businesses will retain the trust of their customers, he added.
