Businesses urged to make plans to ensure online retailing best practice
May 22 2009, 10:20 AM
Businesses are being urged to implement a data strategy to ensure they are prepared for the changing habits of consumers and the expected explosion in e-commerce.
A trade publication has suggested that digital consumer trends could also help the sector recover from the current financial crisis.
Don Davis, Editor of Internet Retailer, commented: "Consumer behaviour is changing dramatically in that people are becoming accustomed to the idea they can interact with their friends pretty much any time and any place... Retailers will go where consumers are, and that's to the social networks and video sites."
He added that the change in buying habits will only begin to be translated into sales in a year or two.
According to 'The State of Retailing Online 2009', a report published by Shop.org - the digital branch of the National Retail Federation - 24% of retailers have made the decision to spend more on their online activities than they were previously intending to.
