Businesses 'can bond with customers through social media'
Jul 19 2010, 16:04 PM
Social media is an extremely important tool for businesses as it enables them to engage with their customers.
This is according to Tristan Garrick, PR Manager for the Direct Marketing Association, who noted that social media marketing has taken off in a big way in recent years.
"It's just a great opportunity for consumers to take the brand in their own hands, pick it apart, play around with it and actually form a closer relationship for pulling information out of rather having information pushed to them," he commented.
However, Mr Garrick warned that there are some dangers associated with social media marketing, as websites such as Facebook and Twitter enable users to start their own discussions.
This can place a brand "at the mercy of consumers", he added.
Speaking recently, Denis Pombriant, Managing Director of the Beagle Research Group, said social media marketing requires hard work and companies should not expect instant results.
